Olympic Park in Munich
Munich Olympiapark
Olympic Park, built for the games in 1972, thanks to the 290-meter television tower Olimpiaturm visible from almost anywhere in Munich. This futuristic complex has received worldwide fame, not only because of the tragic events at the Games in Munich, the Israeli sports team, but thanks to the revolutionary architectural design.
The park was designed by leading experts of the famous Engineering Design Company «Behnisch architekten» under the direction of Otto Frei, becoming perhaps the most original project of the German architecture of the XX century. Three main buildings of the complex - the Olympic Stadium with a capacity of 62 thousand spectators, the Olympic swimming pool and arena, covered with large translucent shell-like giant jellyfish. The awning stretched between several masts, forming irregularly shaped tent. Complementing this is an amazing spectacle of a magnificent park and winding pond.
Even today, a fantastic structure makes an indelible impression and makes the world feel in the future. And almost forty years ago in Munich Olympic Park was a real breakthrough in the engineering and artistic thought. Over the years the complex has turned into one of the favorite places of recreation for the citizens of Munich, which are regularly held festivals and fireworks sparkle.
Get inside the main building complex - Olympiastadion, and witness the transience of time for a modest fee can be anyone. Once the best sports arena in Germany, despite the perfectly smooth emerald green lawn, was found to be unsuitable for use during the World Cup in 2006. Therefore, in Munich was built resembling an inflatable boat and were able to glow in different colors Allianz Arena. Olympiastadion also remained content with more modest sporting events and concerts of rock and pop music.
However, tourists also thoughtful walking among the empty stands and the construction of pictures in the imagination of its former greatness, Olympiastadion can offer a fun ride. Extreme persons tied to the 200-meter rope and run from the roof of the stadium at one end to another. Entertainment unpretentious, but always causing a storm of delight.
Cover the entire eye Olympic Park can be not only from the observation deck on the Olimpiaturm, but with a huge 52-meter hill, located in the southern part of the complex. This mound, incidentally, is the ruins of the destroyed Munich, exported here while clearing the city. As always in Germany - always prudently, in a big way, and the deep historical sense.
Location: Germany, Munich, Olympiapark.
